Jonathan Stoddern
My name is Jonathan Stoddern and I have been teaching mathematics to secondary school students since 2008. Prior to that I studied maths at Imperial College, London.
About Me

From 2008 until 2016 I worked in central London. From 2016 until Summer 2025 I worked at a South Buckinghamshire grammar school. I have now decided to work privately so that I can home educate my eldest Son, aged 9.

From 2016 to 2025 I had the pleasure of many roles at a fantastic Grammar School including head of maths and assistant head teacher. I stepped away from the responsibility of Assistant Head in order to focus on my three young children and I have now stepped away from the classroom to focus on educating my eldest. During my sixteen years in the classroom I have taught students of all abilities from years 7 to 13.
I have supported students to achieve top grades in GCSE and A level who previously doubted their mathematical abilities. In addition I have successfully prepared students for maths and maths related degrees at Oxford, Cambridge and other top universities.
Finally I have worked with students preparing for UKMT competitions, including the British Mathematical Olympiad rounds 1 and 2.

Outside of teaching
I am a married father of three young children. I love to read and I love to be outdoors. In a previous life I have competed in triathlons and running races. I love the mountains and once upon a time, despite having no real talent for it, I enjoyed low grade climbing. I am currently learning the piano, with my eldest son.
